![]() The relationship is handled with a light touch and develops beautifully. There's a romance subplot to the book, but the book is absolutely not a romance. It's something I'm seeing more of these days-probably springing off its frequent use in urban fantasy-but I think it works very well. I really enjoy first person science fiction. That's not obvious while reading the story, but in hindsight, I can see that emotional core. In the author information, Lord says she was inspired by the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami and how rural villages had been decimated and most of the women killed. The premise is fascinating and compelling. The stragglers struggle to survive and rebuild their people in a new age. The Sadiri had been considered the pinnacle of human civilization, but now their homeworld is lost. Delarua is a linguist and a scientist, assigned to aid the Sadiri as they adjust to the planet Cygnus Beta. Most of the book is told through first-person narration, and it makes the world easy to follow. ![]() The Best Of All Possible Worlds is just plain good science fiction. Show More Still, I appreciated her work enough that I was excited to receive this new release. ![]()
